Croatia’s Holiday Resort of Korcula Island to kick off the 2013 triathlon season with the Marco Polo Challenge this April.
(TRAVPR.COM) UK - April 25th, 2013 - Those seeking an endurance challenge should get their trainers, wetsuits, and bicycles ready and head for Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast this April for the 2013 Marco Polo Challenge.
For the third year in a row, Croatia will host one of the world’s most challenging and stunning triathlons. The Marco Polo Challenge is named after the daring merchant traveller who spent much of his childhood on the Adriatic island of Korcula.
In its most basic form, a triathlon consists of the disciplines of running, cycling, and swimming. The Marco Polo Challenge is no exception, incorporating several different competitions including both an Olympic length triathlon with a 1.5 kilometre swim, 40 kilometre cycle, and 10 kilometre run and a sprint length triathlon with a 750 metre swim, 20 kilometre cycle, and a five kilometre run. The event will also feature relay races and a 10 kilometre running race.
Competitors will race through medieval streetscapes, pine forests, and through the dramatic coastal backdrops that are only offered by Croatia’s Dalmatian coast. In addition to the race, participants will be invited to various parties and activities surrounding the days of the event.
The Marco Polo Challenge 2013 will take place on Saturday, 27 April 2013 on Croatia’s beautiful KorculaIsland. Although it costs nothing to view the event, entrance fees will vary depending on the event, and these range from €20 to €53. Participation is open to both men and women, aged 15 and over.
The island is well connected to both the Dalmatian coast and the Croatian mainland, although visitors may do well to check public transport schedules in advance during the peak spring and summer months.
