However, finding an alternative flight quickly is important says leading budget airline search engine WhichBudget.com.
(TRAVPR.COM) Valbonne, France - 17th December 2009 - Last night, Scottish budget airline Flyglobespan stopped flying leaving thousands stranded abroad and many more despondent about their Christmas and New Year holiday.
Martino Matijevic - founder of the budget airline search engine www.whichbudget.com says:
"This is extremely unfortunate as airlines are not ATOL bonded and when they fail they cause chaos by leaving holiday makers responsible for finding another flight.
"If you have paid by credit card for a flight over £100 you will most likely, eventually, get your money back.
"If you have travel insurance take up the issue with them, but the most pressing issue is getting home or not losing out on your festive holiday."
WhichBudget.com can take the pain out of searching for a replacement flight. In a matter of seconds it lists all the budget airlines that fly from the traveller's departure airport to their destination.
Martino adds "With so many travellers affected not just by Flyglobespan but also by the looming BA strike, it is important to get online as soon as possible, find your flight then seek compensation later from your travel insurer or credit card company."
