In the wake of the revitalization of Sri Lankan tourism, NKAR went on a team hike to the newly initiated Pekoe Trail. The Pekoe Trail is the first and foremost long-distance walking trail in Sri Lanka. Spanning a whopping 300 kilometers amidst the verdant hill country of the island, it covers 3 districts and 2 provinces. The Pekoe Trail was designed as a community-based tourism concept to enhance the livelihood of people living in the localities surrounding the trail.

The Pekoe Trail is a long-distance walking trail that promises to captivate adventurous travelers from all around the world. This remarkable trail spans an impressive 300 kilometers through the lush hill country of Sri Lanka, covering three districts and two provinces.

In addition to the Pekoe Trail, there are other notable long-distance hiking trails in Sri Lanka. Some of these include the Knuckles Mountain Range Trek, which takes hikers through a UNESCO World Heritage Site and offers panoramic views of the surrounding hills and valleys. Another popular trail is the Peak Wilderness Sanctuary, where hikers can climb Adam's Peak, a sacred mountain with a footprint-shaped depression believed to be the mark of Buddha, Lord Shiva, or Adam, depending on different religious beliefs.

The NKAR team divided into four groups and conquered Stage 1 of the Pekoe Trail successfully. Stage 1 spans 12 km, starting from Hantana Tea Museum and ending in Galaha town. The stage 01 is a relatively easy hike with a lower elevation gain that is suitable for novice hikers as well. The hikers can view picturesque Hantana range while trekking this trail.

Along the way, the team did their part for responsible tourism by collecting garbage along the trail. They also gifted stationery to the needy kids along the trail.
