C&M Travel Recruitment’s Activity Index – December 2023
- Candidates reach highest December total since 2017
- Vacancies also rise from last year
- Dip in travel placements
Positive month for travel jobseekers
The number of new candidates searching for travel jobs across the UK rose by 22 per cent from last December to reach the highest December total since 2017, according to the latest figures from C&M Travel Recruitment.
Last month's total was up by 31 per cent from December 2019 and up by 20 per cent from December 2018, but down by 16 per cent from December 2017. Compared to November 2023, last month's total fell by 51 per cent.
There was also a 45 per cent rise in the number of new travel job vacancies compared to the same month last year. However, the traditional slowdown in activity associated with the festive period led vacancies to dip by 38 per cent from November 2023.
Slower month for placements
As expected, the last month of the year also saw a fall in the number of candidates being placed in new travel jobs, with December's figure falling by 15 per cent from November. It also fell by 38 per cent from the same month last year.
Speaking about the stats, Barbara Kolosinska, Managing Director at C&M Travel Recruitment, said: "Always the quietest month of the year, December 2023 didn't buck the trend. But it was far from the slowest December we've seen in recent years, with encouraging numbers of new candidates and vacancies.
"We're hoping this momentum continues into the early weeks of 2024, and we're already seeing very positive indications that it will do just that. It's looking like it's going to be a very busy start to the New Year with some great travel talent entering the market, and this increased competition means companies will have to offer their very best packages to secure the top candidates."
