C&M Travel Recruitment’s Activity Index – July 2024
- Vacancies reach four-month high
- New travel candidates jump 19 per cent in July
- Placements also increase but remain down on 2023
Positive month for travel recruitment
The number of new travel job vacancies, candidates and placements all increased last month for the first time since January, according to the latest figures from C&M Travel Recruitment.
New job vacancies in the travel industry rose by 12 per cent in July to reach their highest point since March, despite July traditionally being a quiet month for the sector.
In other encouraging news, the number of candidates searching for a new job in the travel industry rose by 19 per cent last month and by nine per cent from July 2023. The month also saw the second highest number of new candidates for the month of July since 2017.
Completing the trio, there was also a 13 per cent monthly rise in the number of candidates being placed in new travel jobs. However, volumes remain down on last year, with a 36 per cent fall from the same month in 2023.
Speaking about the stats, Barbara Kolosinska, Managing Director at C&M Travel Recruitment, said: "With so many candidates and decision-makers away on holiday, July is typically one of the quieter months of the year for travel recruitment, so it's extremely welcome that new jobs, candidates and placements all rose from June. In particular, to see the number of new jobs jump to a four-month high in the month of July is extremely rare and something that hasn’t happened for at least a decade.
"However, we do need to acknowledge that overall volumes are still down from last year and compared to the typical volumes that we've seen in previous Julys. But we're hopeful that July 2024's very encouraging figures will continue to gain momentum through the end of summer and into autumn."
