ANGLING FOR A GREAT CHRISTMAS PRESENT? TRY A FISHING ADVENTURE IN ICELAND!
Industry: Sports Travel

FishPal has launched a new booking service, combining permits and accommodation for many of Iceland’s top fishing locations.

(TRAVPR.COM) UNITED KINGDOM - December 19th, 2024 - Iceland is known as the land of fire and ice. For many anglers, it’s also a promised land, with gin-clear, unspoiled waters that are home to salmon, trout and Arctic char. Iceland’s near-mythical status among anglers comes not only from its world-class salmon fishing and trophy trout but also the logistical difficulty of organising angling trips to some of the more inaccessible locations.

However, now UK-based FishPal, the innovative service that enables anglers to book fly fishing permits and accommodation online, has launched a new Iceland fishing service. Anglers can book permits and rooms in a luxury lodge in one easy package.

Angling expert Will Draper, Head of FishPal, says: ‘Iceland has traditionally presented anglers with difficulties because of the remoteness of many of its best beats, the high cost historically of arranging a fishing package holiday and the fact that Icelandic law stipulates that no river can be open for salmon fishing for more than 3½ months.

‘That’s why at FishPal we’re delighted to announce the launch of our combined rod permit and accommodation service for Iceland. Take, for example, northwest Iceland’s Svartá River, a hidden gem that’s a tributary of the legendary Blanda River. This exclusive river, limited to four rods, invites anglers to explore its 20km pristine, crystal-clear water. It has a remarkable ten-year average of around 300 Atlantic salmon annually—many tipping the scales at 20 pounds or more. Just this year, the largest salmon in Iceland was caught on the river, a 111cm (43 inch) female salmon. The Svartá also has a thriving trout population.

‘Booking through FishPal.com not only takes care of rod licences, etc, but includes self-catering accommodation in Svartá Lodge, hidden away in the magical Svartidalur Valley. This fully equipped retreat, complete with a jacuzzi, offers breathtaking views of the river and the surrounding landscape.

‘There are currently eight extraordinary locations available through FishPal across Iceland. Of course, fishing in Iceland is not an everyday fishing trip and, for many people, it will be a once in a lifetime experience, so it is not inexpensive. Having said that, Fishpal is able to offer fishing at prices well below the rates that anglers have historically had to pay, and it’s a fishing trip anglers will remember forever.

‘It’s the early bird that catches the salmon. Langa bookings are only available for June and July and Svartá bookings for August and permits for many of Iceland’s best beats are extremely limited. That means anglers should think about booking their trip right now. If you’re angling for a wonderful Christmas present, a fishing adventure in Iceland could be the gift of a lifetime!
