It was conceived to refurbish, restore and market India’s ancient heritage in form of hotels and resorts. Opened in 1977 in a dilapidated ruin, Neemrana Hotels in India have been able to turn around the fortunes many historic buildings of the past which were lying in ruins.

To be exact fortunes of 27 hotels have turned around in a very luxurious way. Conceived by Aman Nath, a historian by education and Francis Wacziarg, a former French embassy attaché and a naturalized Indian citizen. Wacziarg has been actively involved in promoting Indian culture through various foundations. He has worked closely with Aman Nath to establish Neemrana Foundation and subsequently Neemrana Hotels Pvt. Ltd.

In all they have renovated 27 properties and has been rated very highly by travel magazines like Conde Nast Traveler. The 'most beautiful' may have had a lot to do with the honeymoon, but to extract such a wholesome compliment from what had been a complete ruin; inhabited by bats and civet cats, only six years earlier, says a lot in favour of the restoration and re-use of ruined historical sites.Neemrana has not so much raised the bar of Indian hospitality, but it has worked concertedly towards creating another niche whereby the experiencing of history and its architectural treasures has now become a part of the Indian tourism repertoire.
