Ready, get set, go – the Arctic Lapland Rally will be shortly be roaring into life once again.
(TRAVPR.COM) UK - January 22nd, 2013 - Featuring more than 100 of the finest rally drivers on the European circuit, the Arctic Lapland Rally is scheduled to next take place between 24th and 26th January 2013 in the far northern region of Lapland itself.
The event is often known simply as the Arctic Rally, and also goes by the name of Tunturiralli. Although the words ‘rally’ and ‘Lapland’ may call to mind the distinctive culture of a sled-dog race, this rally is focussed exclusively on the exciting art of driving cars atop roads coated with ice and snow – a daunting prospect.
The race takes place in and around Rovaniemi, which is a town located in the Lapland region of Finland. The event has been a local favourite for more than four decades. At the current time, the race is one portion of a large contest known as the Finnish Rally Championship.
Until 2004, however, the Arctic Lapland Rally was on the circuit for the European Rally Championship; during the 1970s it was also part of the World Rally Championship.
The racing action at the Arctic Lapland Rally is among the finest in the world, as evidenced by the impressive list of winners who have triumphed in past years. Five such winners were World Rally Champions themselves; these include Tommi Makinen, Timo Salonen and Ari Vatanen. In 2009, drivers from the Formula One circuit also got in on the action.
For more information on the exciting action expected at the 2013 event, including a complete description of the route and information about the competitors expected to attend, rally racing fans should be sure to visit the official Arctic Rally website at http://www.arcticrally.fi/. Special rally packages are available, which include a pass to all the special stages, a magazine, a map, a programme, and an itinerary.
