Bhaya Cruises organized third Halong Bay Massive Beach Cleanup Campaign for environmental protection.
(TRAVPR.COM) VIETNAM - January 23rd, 2013 - Cruising toward its sustainable goal, Bhaya Cruises organized its third massive Halong Bay beach cleanup campaign from 12 to 19 January. The event is in partnership with 150 volunteers from more than 30 countries and more than 50 staffs from Bhaya Cruises.
Designated a World Heritage Site in 1998, Ha Long Bay is currently under threat from water pollution as a result of mining activities, environmental degradation from urban development nearby, destruction of mangroves, and the removal of corals from reefs for sale to tourists and due to water quality.
Named “Action for Halong Bay”, the campaign helps collected a huge amount of garbage on the beaches within Halong City and in the bay. It also helps raise awareness of environmental issues among locals, tourists & management authority through organizing practical and meaningful activities such as beach cleanup, workshop & trainings.
Bhaya Cruises, which also operates The Au Co, is a pioneer of sustainable and responsible tourism in Halong Bay and is actively joining the campaign. The company has organized two beach cleanups in 2009 & 2011. Bhaya Cruises provides boats, garbage collecting tools, meals, ordinations and communications for the entire event. Its 50 staffs also joined the event for collecting and processing waste.
Mr Tran Thanh Nam, Chairman of Bhaya Cruises says: “Bhaya Cruises has been committed to sustainable tourism since our first boat came into service in 2007. I am very happy with the result of the third cleanup. We strongly support and actively participate in all initiatives which share our commitment and which help to raise awareness amongst the Vietnamese about the importance of saving the environment. We call on local and international organisations & tour operators to join us in bringing back a greener bay for future generations.”
