The Northern Lights Festival, a Tromsø tradition since 1998, will be returning to the town in northern Norway on the last weekend in January.
(TRAVPR.COM) UK - January 23rd, 2013 - Taking place over the course of three days, the Northern Lights Festival will provide participants not only with the opportunity to enjoy the lovely winter skies in this far northern region but also the chance to hear and enjoy a lovely and diverse assortment of live musical performances.
Now entering its 26th year, the Northern Lights Festival offers an astonishing number of concerts and other performances – more than 500 in all. To make an event of this scale possible, more than 1,000 dedicated volunteers have donated untold hours to the festival already, contacting top artists and arranging a variety of venues in which to host the shows that make up the bulk of the festival's events.
Far from being just a classical music event, the Northern Lights Festival instead ranges far and wide in terms of musical style and taste. Symphonic orchestras and chamber music are out in force, but so are a variety of other musical forms such as modern jazz and opera. This festival truly has something for everyone – even those whose specialty interest is the early music that first animated the souls of mankind will be catered for.
Although the Northern Lights Festival does feature music as the main star of the show, there are a variety of other events that also make up the festivities. Those in attendance can participate in a special Northern Lights cruise in addition to enjoying master classes designed to assist musicians to improve their craft. Lectures, exhibitions and outdoor events also make up a significant portion of the annual programme.
