(TRAVPR.COM) UNITED KINGDOM - January 24th, 2013 - After such a long dry period, when the rain finally did arrive in Malawi's Majete Wildlife Reserve in December, there was a sigh of relief from herbivores and many of the migratory birds in the area. Majete's Lions are also doing well having recently been sighted whilst being tracked on foot by rangers accompanied by a E-TV crew filming a documentary, and the Rhino's in the reserve continue to thrive with mother-to-be Callista still not quite ready to deliver.
The last part of 2012 also saw the introduction of two more leopards to the reserve from South Africa. Despite the female Leopard claiming freedom by biting through diamond mesh whilst in quarantine, she and the other 5 leopards are doing well.
An aerial and ground count of the Majete Wildlife Reserve has also been under way, led by Derek McPherson in an ultra-light Bantam aircraft. These figures are in the process of being put together and hopefully will be used to show population estimates and growth trends.
There is much more news from Majete including information about a new research camp, a new arificial water-hole and education products. To read the full newsletter please click here.
