STIMULATE THE SENSES AT PROVENCE'S TRUFFLE AND WINE FESTIVAL THIS FEBRUARY
Industry: Holiday Rentals
Vaucluse Tourism

The first week in February sees visitors flock to Carpentras, a town located in the Provence region of southeast France, for the return of the Truffle and Wine Festival.

(TRAVPR.COM) UK - February 4th, 2013 - Although the truffle market established for the event will feature more than 40 stands selling truffles and a variety of products related to them, the Provence Truffle and Wine Festival is far more than an opportunity to go shopping.

The Truffle and Wine Festival includes a variety of events tailored for both spectators and participants. Throughout the festival guests will be able to engage in a number of activities. These include truffle-related games, as well as the opportunity to watch truffle experts demonstrate the correct way to harvest this most subtle of delicacies.

Nor will festival guests be left in the dark concerning the various creative uses to which truffles can be put; a series of culinary demonstrations will be taking place to answer this very question. Visitors will also be able to meet with truffle growers to discuss a variety of issues, including the techniques they use in the course of their work.

Carpentras itself is located along the banks of the River Auzon and has been an important centre of commerce since antiquity, when Greek merchants would frequent the markets held here. The Romans later called the town Carpentoracte Meminorum, building a triumphal arch that can still be seen today.  Carpentras was a frequent host city to the Avignon popes during its history, even providing them with residences at times.

The truffle has long been the most famous product of the town, and this is a circumstance that continues into the present era. Although the next Truffle and Wine Festival will begin on 2nd January 2013, the actual truffle season in Carpentras lasts longer. Truffle markets are held during both the winter months and in the early spring.
