Popular London hostel accommodation Palmers Lodge recently surveyed past and current customers and discovered that they needed to continue providing some services for free, to keep up with rising customer expectations.
(TRAVPR.COM) LONDON, UK - February 7th, 2013 - The survey, conducted in-house, set out to establish whether Palmers was judged as being good value for money against its competitors and whether any changes needed to be made to its services. 70% of participants said that they were not willing to pay for a breakfast with more choice, including hot menu items. 87% of participants said that they would pay no more than £30 per night to stay. When asked for comments, wi-fi and locked storage were the most requested services with the majority of participants expecting these to be included in the nightly rate, along with breakfast. It was clear that Palmers Lodge couldn’t charge for breakfast or wi-fi services without risking losing some of their customers to the competition.
Esther Tong, Sales and Marketing Manager at Palmers Lodge said “we know we’re not the first to offer a breakfast inclusive rate, but we had to listen to our customers. As one of London’s leading hostels, we want to provide what is important to our guests rather than take a stab in the dark”.
One participant said “For up to £30 per night I would expect free wi-fi and internet facilities, secure rooms with lockers, a good breakfast, social activities and possibly a bar, a fantastic location, a clean hostel with great atmosphere and facilities.” It seems the customer belief is not that you get what you pay for anymore but rather pay a little, get a lot.
