FIS Alpine Ski World Cup action will be continuing in the French ski resort of Meribel, with the women's downhill and super combined stages taking place from 21st to 24th February 2013.
(TRAVPR.COM) UK/FRANCE - February 8th, 2013 - Located in the Tarentaise Valley of the French Alps, the Meribel ski resort actually includes three different villages, all of which are located in the scenic Vanoise National Park. Meribel Centre, Meribel Village and Meribel Mottaret are all part of a larger interlinked system of ski areas referred to all over the world as Les Trois Vallées, or The Three Valleys.
The FIS Alpine Ski World Cup is a premiere event in the world of international alpine skiing. First conceived in the mid-1960s by French journalist Serge Lang and several of his friends in the ski-racing world, the concept quickly received the backing of the FIS – the International Ski Federation. By 1967, the first FIS Alpine Ski World Cup events were being held in Berchtesgaden, which was at the time located in the nation of West Germany. During its first two years, the big winners hailed from France and Canada.
The FIS Alpine Ski World Cup consists of four distinct skiing disciplines: the slalom, the giant slalom, the downhill, and the super G, which is also referred to as the super combined. The latter two of these four events will be on display in full force in late February, when women from all over the world arrive to compete in these categories.
The downhill event will take place first, with the ladies provided with two days of training opportunities on the slopes of Meribel; the ladies' downhill racing will commence on Saturday 23rd February. The following day will be reserved for the ladies super combined competition.
