The North Face Park and Pipe Open Series returns to Waterville Valley Resort for its third year on Feb. 23.
(TRAVPR.COM) USA - February 15th, 2013 - WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. – The North Face Park and Pipe Open Series returns to Waterville Valley Resort for its third year on Feb. 23. This freeskiing competition will highlight some of the best skiers in the East in the park and big air categories. Skiiers can compete alongside the pros to cash out with $5,000 in cash and prizes, in this open-format event series.
“This year’s events are perfectly scheduled to provide prime advancement opportunities for athletes ready to take their freeskiing career to the next level,” said Barb Hamblett, PPOS Event Director with Mountain Sports International, Inc. (MSI). “Spectators can expect to see exciting top level competition at Waterville Valley Resort this season.”
Slopestyle skiing takes place in Exhibition Terrain Park on man-made features such as rails, boxes and jumps contained on a single slope. Big Air pushes skiers to take their tricks to new heights with challenging grabs, spins, flips and other maneuvers. Skiers string together a series of aerials from jump to jump in a single run. Judging is based on overall impression, including content, difficulty of run, style and use of the park or jumps.
This year the party is on the slopes. Come out under the lights for the biggest competition to hit the east coast this season. Bucket’s and T-Bars will be open until 10 p.m. with full service food and beverage menus. Take it easy on the Schuss Buss which will be running from the mountain to the Valley throughout the night. Spectators will be able to get right up to the action, under the lights to snap some photos of their favorite athletes.
“The North Face is excited to bring yet another season of freeskiing completion opportunities to athletes, both professional and amateur, across North America,” said The North Face Director of Sports Marketing, Katie Ramage. “The progression of the sport of freeskiing is important to us, and this competition format is another way for us to support that movement.”
But one night is not enough. Get a preview on Friday, Feb. 22 in Waterville Valley’s Town Square. See the latest film from Nick Martini, “The Eighty Six” by Sept Productions, will be shown on the big screen in the heart of Town Square. This outdoor production will start at 7:30 p.m. At 8:30 p.m., there will be an autograph session and meet and greet with Nick and Devin Logan at 1829 Outfitters following the film.
