March Events and Deals in NH’s Lakes Region

Lakes Region, NH – Taps on the maple trees in New Hampshire’s Lakes Region mean that spring is on its way. No, spring isn’t necessarily here yet, but it means the days are warm enough for the trees to produce sap, which, depending on a person’s seasonal preferences, may seem too soon or not soon enough.

Some, for instance, may feel that they haven’t gotten enough skiing or snowmobiling time in this winter and will be heading to one of the area’s eight ski areas or NH SledVentures Snowmobile Rentals in Lincoln, NH to get in some last minute winter fun. Some hotels, such as A Newfound Bed and Breakfast, Steele Hill Resort and the Mountain Club on Loon have Ski and Stay travel packages that run all the way through the end of March.

Others will be eager to stem their craving for fresh, NH-made maple syrup. They’re likely to visit Heritage Farm Pancake House in Sanbornton, NH; the Prescott Farm Environmental Education Center in Laconia, NH or the Remick Country Doctor Museum & Farm in Tamworth, NH to learn how the tapping and sugaring processes work and stock up on sweet syrup for the year. They may also stop in at T-BONES or one of our other great restaurants offering special menu items made with maple syrup.

For those who are impatient for winter to end, the beginning of moderate temperatures will signal the start of spring outdoor activities, like joining one of Rhino Bike Works group bike rides. No bike? No problem! They have rentals available at their Plymouth location. Those looking to put on their hiking boots again will head to the Lakes Region’s many mountains like Mount Major or Rattlesnake Mountain. Thrill-seekers will want to enjoy the ziplines at Gunstock Mountain, too.

While you’re taking advantage of these tips, you may want to attend some Lakes Region events to welcome the beginnings of spring:

·         Maple Sugar Madness at Prescott Farm Environmental Education Center on every Saturday from March 2 to 30. Learn the process of tapping and making maple syrup in this fun family program.

·         Briefcase Race at Loon Mountain on March 2. Friends and supporters of The Faulkner Breast Center gather at Loon Mountain on the first Saturday in March to ski, have fun, and raise funds for the fight against breast cancer.

·         How I Became a Pirate at Capitol Center for the Arts on March 5. A story of adventure and finding one's own heart - a path that can't be found on any treasure map!

·         Maple Sugaring Day at Remick Country Doctor Museum & Farm on March 9. Explore the Museum’s tapped trees, view its many exhibits, and sample maple goodies at the Farmhouse Kitchen.

·         UberSpring at King Pine events throughout the month of March. Choose from the Crash Dummy Launch contest on March 9th, the 13th Annual Marky B Boardfest on March 10th, the Cardboard Box Derby on March 17th, the Pond Skimming & Reggae Beach Party on March 24th and more!

The Lakes Region Tourism Association is the official tourism board of the region, representing close to 100 communities, 273 lakes and ponds, and more than 400 businesses in central New Hampshire, including area attractions, restaurants, retail establishments and accommodations. The LRTA office is at Exit 20 on Route 3 in Tilton, and it can be reached by calling (800) 60-LAKES.
