(TRAVPR.COM) UNITED KINGDOM - March 6th, 2013 - Mix a heady cocktail of sumptuous yet ‘responsible’ tourism, grassroots practical help from the war-weary people of Mozambique and a last chance to protect a pristine corner of real Africa – and you have the Manda Wilderness Project. The Project forges an invincible bond between protecting one of Africa’s last true wildernesses, releasing an African community’s true potential, and boosting the standards of international tourism.
In 2008, Nkwichi was awarded the BEST SMALL HOTEL for the World Wide Responsible Tourism and Virgin Holiday Awards and more recently in 2012, the lodge won the Conde Nast World Savers Award in the ‘Doing It All’ category.
Working closely with the 20,000 people in this vast area, Nkwichi has helped each of the 16 villages to set up a Community Committee. Through these Committees, ten schools have been built, a maize mill, a maternity clinic, a Girls’ Boarding dormitory, 60km of roads and over 700 farmers have received training in sustainable agriculture.
Manda Wilderness are officially celebrating 10 years of operation on the lakeshore and are looking for guests and visitors to post any special moments, either stories or photos, which they think best encapsulate the spirit of this most special place and its people.
Manda Wilderness will have a surprise for the most fitting and entertaining tale or picture from Nkwichi and/or the Manda Wilderness Project and are inviting all to visit once again and relive the taste of a crispy-cold 2M, the cry of the lonely Fish Eagle calling its mate and the feeling of the softest sand squeaking between your toes...
You can read some of the most recent memories and post your own by visiting the Nkwichi Lodge facebook page.
