About Nanjing and Nanjing Hexi New Town

Located on the Yangtze River, Nanjing is the capital city of Jiangsu province. It has always been one of China’s most important cities, and its rapid economic growth today mirrors that of both Shanghai and Beijing. Located just one hour by high-speed train from Shanghai, and boasting its own international airport, Nanjing has enormous economic influence in China. The city is regarded as a doorway for Chinese companies to expand overseas, and for international companies to enter and expand in China. Nanjing shares sister city status with 11 global cities, including St Louis (United States), Perth (Australia), Florence (Italy), Bloemfontein (South Africa), and Eindhoven (Netherlands.)

Hexi New Town is expected to be the new center and symbol of the modern city of Nanjing. “He” (river), “Xi” (west) therefore Hexi refers to the location on the west of the Qinhuai River to the east of the Yangtze River. The area is targeted to become a modern riverside town incorporating the core of modern service industry, high level residential areas, a riverside leisure spot and an urban industrial park. It also houses the 4 billion RMB Nanjing Olympic Sports Center which covers an area of almost 90 hectares and will be the main venue of the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics.
