(TRAVPR.COM) UNITED KINGDOM - April 24th, 2013 - On Saturday 15th June 2013, the 10th Annual mountain bike race will take place starting from Malawi’s Luwawa Forest Lodge.
The race has been described as “a tough but very beautiful route” and at a distance of 50km; this is by no means an exaggeration. The track, starting at the Luwawa Forest Lodge follows the ridge silhouette of the South Viphya Forest Reserve , allowing competitors and supporters alike to enjoy the stunning scenery. Fast paced and growing in popularity and status, the race was credited two years ago as an international race with the Union of Cycling International; the world body for accrediting international cycling events. The evening will be celebrated with the Malawian band Body, Mind and Soul!
The race benefits the Luwawa Environmental Trust (LET), a charity that helps local people with setting up income generating schemes using the surrounding forests in an environmentally sustainable way. LET also aims to educate primary school children in sustainable management of natural resources. This year, the money raised from the race will help build an environmental education centre for use by primary schools in the Mzimba district. The centre will be powered by means of wind, solar and hydro power which will be used to further educate pupils in methods of alternative energy and sustainable living.
This is a cycling event not to be missed!
