Earth Week has begun at Kuramathi when a week-long series of environmental friendly events commenced on the 16th April to the 22nd April. This year’s program has a lot of interesting elements combined, from guided tours, terrestrial and aquatic cleanups to, presentations of tiny plankton and mighty Sperm Whales!
(TRAVPR.COM) MALDIVES - April 30th, 2013 - The celebrations began with a guided nature tour of Kuramathi, strolling across the sacred 300 year old Banyan Tree, the pristine Botanical Walk, the ever efficient Hydroponic Garden, ending at the virgin Nature Trail, with a demonstration of coconut plucking and a fresh coconut each for the participants! For those interested to learn more about the complex technicalities of Kuramathi, a guided tour of the Power House, Sewerage Treatment Plant, and the Desalination Plant took place, with our Chief Engineer!
An aquatic clean-up is also on the agenda, where guest volunteers plunge into the house reef along with our Dive School team members. This challenging dive is free and the divers get a taste of tender coconuts after the dive as a merit for their hard work!
Presentations at the Eco Centre(http://www.kuramathi.com/environment/ecocentre.html) demonstrated by our Resident Marine Biologist, scopes into the life of mighty giants such as sperm whales to tiny particles we call plankton. The educational screening helps to understand the vast ocean at a glance while empowering us to protect and maintain its natural state.
We aim to gather as much participation as we can for this year’s Earth Week. Only we can save our pristine planet, and by acting together as one our efforts will benefit us, ultimately.
