The 27th edition of the Arctic Open Golf Tournament will be held at the Akureyri Golf Club on the 27th and 28th of June, 2013. The event will bring golfers of all talents and abilities to one of the most unique golf courses in the world.

(TRAVPR.COM) UK - June 11th, 2013 - The Akureyri Golf Club course is approximately 6,400 yards long and features eighteen holes placed in a natural setting. Situated 65 49' north of the Equator, this is the most northerly 18-hole golf course in the world.

Located in northern Iceland, one appealing feature of the course is that it provides golfers with plenty of daylight. The fact that Akureyri is located so close to the Arctic Circle means the events can start late in the day. Indeed, the second group plays at 21.30 during each of the two days of competition. The projected sunset time during the 2013 edition of the tournament will be close to midnight, with the sunrise being at 3.00 in the morning.

The event will start on June 27^th with an opening reception and lunch. The first group of golfers will start playing at 16.00 with a second group starting some five and a half hours later. A shotgun start is used at all tees. The schedule will repeat itself the following day.

There will be four different classes of golfers competing at the event. The Net and Scratch tournaments will be, respectively, for amateur golfers and golfers with a little more experience under their belts.

A ladies division is also part of the tournament, as well as a Senior division for golfers 55 years of age or older. These two divisions have been in play since 2002 and are continuing to grow.

An awards presentation and celebratory dinner will take place on June 29th. This will be held at the restaurant and banquet hall located on the grounds of the course. Unfortunately, no word yet on what the menu will consist of, but you can expect that the cuisine will not disappoint.

Participants can enter the Arctic Open Golf Tournament for the entry fee of approximately £250. This fee includes a spot in the tournament plus entry to the associated events, such as the opening reception and the awards presentation dinner. A gift bag will also be given to every participant.
