(TRAVPR.COM) UNITED KINGDOM - June 24th, 2013 - Wilderness Safaris has teamed up with City of Stars festival as the official tour operator for the event, providing accommodation and travel logistics in and around Malawi for the period leading up to, during and after the festival.
The Lake of Stars Project will celebrate its 10 Year Anniversary by hosting a brand new city-based music and arts festival in Lilongwe, aptly named “City of Stars”, in Malawi from 27 to 28 September 2013.
Last year Malawi missed out on Lake of Stars as the organisers spent time developing new ways to enhance and promote the music, culture and tourism of Malawi, based on their experience and that of local practitioners. They also secured a state-of-the-art sound system for Malawi that is being used by music charity Rhythm of Life in Lilongwe.
The organisers have always felt, as have many of the festival’s international visitors, that the two things that make Lake of Stars such a unique festival were its location and the people of Malawi. Now in its tenth year it was thought that 2013 was the time to celebrate 10 years of Malawian creativity by focusing on the second of these. They festival will do this by upping the reach and the accessibility of the project, by bringing the experience off the shore and into the city of Lilongwe, the international gateway to the Warm Heart of Africa.
In addition to supporting the operations of the event, Wilderness Safari have also put together a number of special ‘City of Stars’ safari packages – giving tourists the chance to not just experience the magic of the festival, but also to see why Malawi is aptly named the ‘Warm Heart of Africa’.
For the beach experience, Chintheche Inn located on the northern shores of Lake Malawi is known for its white sands, warm clear waters and age-old fishing villages. The area boasts some of the finest beaches on the entire lakeshore and the nearby Viphya Mountains form a dramatic backdrop. Activities include; snorkelling, kayaking, mountain bike trips, village tours, and horse-riding at nearby Kande beach.
For the bush experience, Mvuu Camp is located in Liwonde National Park (widely recognised as Malawi’s premier game reserve) and is considered the most prolific wildlife area in Malawi. Mvuu means “hippo” in Tonga and the name epitomizes the large numbers of hippo pods that inhabit the Shire. Mvuu Camp offers comfort and adventure at reasonable prices and activities include day and night game drives, boat safaris, bird watching, guided walks, rhino sanctuary game drives, bike rides to Njobvu village and Nanthomba school tours.

This collaboration is set to ensure that the event runs smoothly and that the operations behind such a big event for Malawi are properly managed. It’s also a great example of operators in Malawi working hard to make Malawi one of the best destinations in Malawi, not just for it’s wildlife and big five, but also for its music festival!
