Organised by acclaimed British DJ, producer, style-setter and broadcaster, Gilles Peterson, this year's event is expected to impress even the most jaded music festival goer. With musical acts from across the electronic spectrum the Worldwide Festival touts itself as "an explosion of cutting edge grooves by the best of today's inspired artists" and "an exceptional line-up in unique environments."
The festival’s charm is in its unique venues -- St. Crist, a lighthouse on the port; Theatre de Mer, a castle styled theater overlooking the sea; the expansive beachfront where the Welcome and Wrap parties take place. Plus two new museum venues for this season, CRAC, the regional contemporary art museum, and the Musee de Paul Valery.
Began in 2006 with only a few hundred people attending, Peterson has grown the festival into a must-attend for the summer holiday season with thousands of tickets already sold. Peterson continues to impress year after year by featuring some of the most talented up and comers alongside established artists. There is something for everyone in the eclectic and mostly electronic leaning lineup.
Artists include long-time French electro-break-hip-hop underground deejay Garfld; Belgium based deejay, Mr. Leenknecht, spinning beats to bossa, hip-hop and house.; Omar Souleyman, a singer from Ras Al Ain, Syria; Thunder Cat, from the US, performs his genre defying, forward-thinking strain of music ; and the UK’s Heliocentrics meld hip-hop, funk, jazz, psychedelic, electronic, and ethnic music plus many more.
