ROMAN BATH WINS VISIT ENGLAND EXCELLENCE AWARD
Industry: Tours

The prestigious Visit England Awards for Excellence 2013 have rated the Roman Baths as the second-best major tourist attraction in England.

(TRAVPR.COM) LONDON - June 27th, 2013 - Managed by Bath and North East Somerset Council, the baths picked up the Silver award in the large visitor attraction category at the awards ceremony held in Manchester last May 20th.

The Roman Baths competed against the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu in Hampshire (Gold), The Cutty Sark (Bronze) and Blenheim Palace (Highly Commended) and were the only attraction in the South West to make it into the national final of the awards for the said category.

Marketing body Visit England chief executive James Berresford congratulated all the finalists for this year’s Visit England Awards for Excellence. He stated that the quality of submissions was higher than ever and that it is no small achievement for the Roman Baths to be a finalist as it can justifiably take credit and pride in earning a coveted place in the top four in its category.

Council cabinet member for sustainable development Councillor Ben Stevens said that they are delighted for the recognition given by the prestigious award body for the Roman Baths, stating that it reflects the success of the team’s incredibly hard work. He also said that it shows Bath & North East Somerset Council’s continuing commitment to making this nationally important visitor attraction accessible and exciting for everyone to enjoy.

The complex made it into the national finals by achieving the highest scores in the South West awards for its “commitment to excellence in customer experience,” “sustainability,” and “commitment to excellence in improvements.”

This World Heritage Site is home to Britain's only natural set of thermal baths. Founded in 75 AD, it is said that the mineral-rich water from the spring has healing powers which attracted visitors from across the Roman Empire. The Romans built a magnificent temple and bathing complex that still flows with natural hot water.

If you have the luxury of time, start your trip by visiting Queens Elizabeth II’s home. Windsor Castle is the world's largest and oldest castle built high above the River Thames. Continue the day wandering around a mysterious stone circle in a Stonehenge tour before ending your day at Bath. The extensive ruins and treasures from the spring are beautifully preserved and presented making any Roman bath tour a worthwhile experience.
