(TRAVPR.COM) UNI - July 12th, 2013 - At the beginning of June 2013 The Responsible Safari Company arranged a two day first aid training course for driver/guides working in the tourism industry in Malawi. Linking up with The Big Training Project (First Aid Africa) RSC invited drivers from Ulendo Travel, Robin Pope Safaris who run Pumulani Lodge & Mkulumadzi Lodge, and Wilderness Safaris to take part in this two day course. This is the 8th RSC driver training course they have run but the 1st to be a collaborative event with other operators - and what a success it proved to be!
The Big Training Project sent Scottish trainer Chris and Malawian First Aider Edward to work with 10 drivers on an intensive two day emergency first aid course. There was a huge amount to cover in a very short time and the trainers did an incredible job ensuring the course was highly factual but also practical and fun! The day included learning how to spot the onset of a heart attack, finding out how to help a guest with epilepsy and practising putting a sling on a broken arm. The venue became a hospital ward as the drivers practised bandaging each other up, learnt how to place a casualty in the recovery position and even how to safely remove snake teeth from a wound!
At the end of the two days the drivers were brimming with knowledge and invaluable information to help them in case of an emergency whilst on a trip with guests. All the drivers passed their assessments- a fantastic achievement! We hope this will be an annual event and would highly recommend the training team from The Big Training Project!
