NEW CHALLENGE OFFERS UNIQUE CHALLENGE: CLIMB FIVE MOUNTAINS IN A SINGLE WEEKEND
Industry: Sports Travel

Waterville Valley 5 Summit Challenge: The event, nicknamed “The Denali Challenge” will be held August 16 to 18 in the resort in the middle of the White Mountain National Forest.

(TRAVPR.COM) USA - July 16th, 2013 - Waterville Valley, NH – Seven near 4,000-foot peaks surround Waterville Valley, NH. And contestants in a new fun hiking weekend are being asked to climb five of them in a single weekend.  That is the gist of the new Waterville Valley 5 Summit Challenge, a 20,000 total that is almost the height of the highest point in the U.S., Alaska’s Mount Denali.

The event, nicknamed “The Denali Challenge” will be held August 16 to 18 in the resort in the middle of the White Mountain National Forest.

“With this event we hope to attract a number of families as well as avid hikers who are drawn by the beauty of the White Mountain National Forest,” said event chair, Bob Fries. “In so doing we will be able to showcase the peaks around Waterville Valley as well as the natural features of the National Forest. “

Organizers selected Waterville Valley because it is surrounded by some of New England’s highest peaks. Entrants in the 5 Summit Challenge will hike (or try to hike) Mt. Osceola’s 2 peaks, Mt. Tecumseh, Welch and Dickey Mountains.  The altitude of these five peaks is equal to the height of Mount Denali. Those who conquer all five will be proclaimed “Alive After Five”

The weekend will include intense hiking for some, but will also offer easier hikes for families, games and entertainment.

There is no fee to be part of the event. And, a special commemorative gift will be given to all participants. There is a charge for the cookout and event T-shirt. Sponsors include Woodstock Inn’s 4000’ Footer Beer, the Waterville Valley Foundation and the Waterville Valley Resort Association.
