Dogfish Featured July 26-Aug. 4 through Out of the Blue Program

(TRAVPR.COM) USA - July 16th, 2013 - HOLDERNESS , NH– Never had dogfish before? Try it at the Van Horn Dining Room attheManor on Golden Pond during the week of July 26 through Aug. 4 when Chef Peter Sheedy will add it to the menu as part of the Out of the Blue program.

The Manor on Golden Pond features AAA Four Diamond dining in its Van Horn Dining Room, an intimate setting with elegant décor and more casual dining in the M Bistro, open seasonally until October. Sheedy uses the freshest local ingredients to craft his dishes, which include a seven course chef’s tasting menu.

“Every day my team and I go to great lengths to really make dining her an unforgettable experience,” Sheedy said. “Out of the Blue is a great way for guests to try dogfish, something they may have never tried before, in our style of creative and delicious cuisine.”

The program, developed in 2011, is a coordinated effort between the culinary industry, fishermen and the Gulf of Maine Research Institute. The program was started to raise awareness about lesser-known and under-valued Gulf of Maine seafood, including dogfish, redfish, mackerel, whiting and pollock. The Manor on Golden Pond is the only New Hampshire restaurant to participate. Other participating restaurants are scattered throughout the state of Maine.

Dogfish is a small species of shark that congregates along the coast from Maine to North Carolina. Once overfished, dogfish population is now at a healthy limit due to catch limits and is abundant in the Gulf of Maine. It is more commonly eaten in the United Kingdom in dishes like fish and chips.
