Wildlife safari operator to make donation to team of gorilla veterinarians for every client visiting Rwanda
(TRAVPR.COM) UNITED KINGDOM - July 19th, 2013 - Journeys Discovering Africa are delighted to announce a new partnership with Gorilla Doctors – the dedicated team of international veterinarians working in Rwanda, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo to provide vital monitoring and medical care to the remaining mountain gorillas in the wild.
Founded in 1986 at the request of the late gorilla researcher Dian Fossey, the Gorilla Doctors’ veterinary team works to save the lives of Central Africa’s endangered mountain and Grauer’s gorillas through health care. Powered by the nonprofit Mountain Gorilla Veterinary Project, Inc. and the UC Davis Wildlife Health Center, Gorilla Doctors treats wild and human-habituated gorillas suffering from life-threatening injury and illness, aids in the rescue and treatment of orphaned gorillas, conducts gorilla disease research, and facilitates preventative health care for the people who work in the national parks and come into close contact with the gorillas.
“As a safari operator we are keen to invest back into both the wilderness areas and wildlife species that we are proud to share with our clients” explained Patrick Shah, CEO of Journeys Discovering Africa. “Gorilla Doctors is a perfect fit for us – their work has definitely contributed to the successful population growth of this critically endangered species. We are proud to be able to support their vital work.”
Journeys Discovering Africa will make a donation to Gorilla Doctors for every person visiting Rwanda on one of their gorilla trekking safaris. In addition, interested clients can also visit the Gorilla Doctors team to learn more about their conservation activities and meet some of the vets themselves.
Dr Kirsten Gilardi, Co-Director of Gorilla Doctors said “we are delighted to have Journeys Discovering Africa onboard as a sponsor – we always welcome such support from the tourism community.”
Journeys Discovering Africa is a boutique wildlife safari expert offering tailor-made private and small group tours all over East Africa. However, the mountainous regions of Uganda and Rwanda - home to mountain gorillas - retain a special significance for the company, as this is where they first started their business more than 12 years ago.
