Known as the “Italian Mozart,” Giachino Rossini will be honored during the month of August at the annual performance beginning Saturday, August 10 running through Friday, August 23, 2013
(TRAVPR.COM) ITALY - August 5th, 2013 - Each year in Pesaro, Italy the Rossini Opera Festival prepares an event in honor of Giachino Rossini, a man known for several operas, sacred music and chamber music along with various instrumental and piano pieces.
The XXXIV Edition of the festival includes several different concerts and lectures throughout the two weeks. It focuses on Rossini’s life work along with revivals of his lesser known masterpieces. The event kicks off on Saturday, August 10 with L’Italiana in Algeri at the Teatro Rossini in the town of Pesaro.
The story of L’Italiana in Algeri was first performed in Venice on May 22, 1813 at the Teatro San Benedetto. Its plot follows a man ready to overturn law and custom to try to win the love of a woman who is unlike his countrywomen.
Those who visit the festival can find themselves enraptured by the world of L’Italiana in Algeri as well as many other stories and concerts being performed throughout the festival’s duration in the town’s many theaters and auditoriums, such as Teatro Rossini.
Teatro Rossini, formally known as Teatro del Sole, opened its doors for the first time in 1673. Giachino Rossini, after whom it was named in 1855, inaugurated it in 1818 in its present form in Pesaro.
The city of Pesaro is worth a visit in its own right with many historical buildings and sights to enjoy. The town is located in the northernmost point of the Marches region and close to the Adriatic Sea.
All reservations for performances during the festival can be booked at the Teatro Rossini Box Office beginning Thursday, August 1, 2013. The box office will open August 1-23 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Ticket offices will be open one hour before each performance at the designated theatre. Credit cards are accepted.
The festival is a foundation sponsored by the Pesaro Town Council, the Provincial government of Pesaro and Urbino, the Cassa di Risparmio di Pesaro Foundation, the Banca dell’ Adriatico and the Scavolini Foundation.
