(TRAVPR.COM) ITALY - August 8th, 2013 - Unlike most festivals that stay in one place, Ferrara Buskers travels around to different cities in Italy order to honor its international street performers. The festival will kick off on August 22, 2013 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Venice City Centre.
The festival will also be visiting Comacchio, Ferrara and Lugo as well. This year’s guest country is Denmark but the festival will feature more than 200 groups from around the world including Abaca, Afreak, Break the Funk, Chano and Claudio Niniano, to name just a few.
Along with the concerts, this year will include street poetry, following last year’s success. The 26th annual festival will have an affirmed poetical personality of the literary scene hosted in the city in the inner court of the Catello Estense.
The poetic experience’s guest of the year will be Alberto Bertoni. Bertoni is scheduled to speak with Matteo Bianchi about the meaning of the spoken word. The day will also include a reading by journalist Stefano Tassinari beginning at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 31.
Ferrara Buskers is the biggest event in the world dedicated to street artists who work in both familiar and exotic sounds. Those involved are driven by a passion to discover the most unique instruments, the most inspired performances and the most imaginary costumes.
The performers take it upon themselves to entertain those who pass them with good humor and poetry. With its success in the past, the festival has helped create an impact that has more than 200 groups throughout the country.
In 1987, Stefano Bottoni created the festival following a format that had been developed by Luigi Russo. Since then it has been managed by a small group of people linked by friendship and family, including permanent members such as, Enrichetta Ticchiati, Roberta Galeotti and Rebecca Bottoni.
It began with the ambition to promote the importance of street artists and to show the increasing beauty and charm of Ferrara. With over 800,000 spectators each year, it is easy for both Italian and foreign visitors to get to any performance by car, train, bus or plane. The festival has since helped to boost the city economically, which is now centered on cultural tourism.
Not only has it attracted tourists to the city of Ferrara, but it has also come to the attention of several scholars and graduates from all different disciplines. Through these studies, the city’s festival has been made the center of theses exploring the significance of the event from an artistic, socio-economic, touristic point of view.
