One Night Only, Friday 13 September 2013 This September, Alila Manggis brings guests back in time to a Royal Affair at the Palace - a unique dining experience, featuring authentic East Balinese flavors with the live serenade of mesmerizing Gamelan music performed by an orchestra in a historic setting of rich Balinese culture and luxury. Enjoy the Royal Balinese celebratory cuisine of suckling pig and lawar, a dish created from a mixture of vegetables, coconut and minced meat, flavored with island herbs and spices made in traditional fashion.
(TRAVPR.COM) INDONESIA - August 29th, 2013 - This lavish dinner will take place in the century-old Taman Ujung Palace located in Ujung Karangasem, a water park located near the city of Ampalura. During colonial times, the park with its tranquil water features, was referred to as “waterpaleis” and, in 1909, the Balinese and Dutch collaborated to build the stately palace with its elaborate pools carved from stone. Design and construction lasted two decades and, in 1937, the palace was inaugurated as Sukasada Park.
In 1963, Bali’s most revered volcano, Mount Agung, nearly destroyed the palace in Indonesia’s most violent volcanic eruption in the 20th Century. Following that, a devastating earthquake struck in 1979 but the Palace survived both calamities and was renovated in 2004 to its former glory to showcase its magnificent architecture. Today visitors can enjoy this royal heritage with its beautiful grounds and panaromic views of the Indian Ocean, lush green forests and Mount Agung.
The Royal Balinese cuisine served at the event will be presented by Chef Nyoman Santika, who helms the talented kitchen team at Alila Manggis and is Chief of the resort’s famed Cooking School. He was part of the hotel opening team before venturing – first to the Amandari in Ubud and then onto international waters in Turks & Cacos Island and Amanyara before returning to Alila Manggis. Chef Santika was also part of the concept team that initiated the resort’s Organic Garden 15 years ago and his gregarious nature made him a guest favourite landing him an annual participation at the Balinese food festivals down in Australia.
Join us for a taste of Royalty at the Palace evocative of Bali’s rich past.
