TRAVELLERS BOOKING MORE SHORT BREAKS: EXCITE HOLIDAYS
Industry: Tour Ops

According to Excite Holidays, an increasing number of Australians are booking short holidays to enjoy time with family, take a break from work and recharge their batteries.

(TRAVPR.COM) AUSTRALIA - September 12th, 2013 - According to Excite Holidays, an increasing number of Australians are booking short holidays to enjoy time with family, take a break from work and recharge their batteries.

According to statistics from Excite Holidays, Australians are taking mini breaks throughout the year with short stays increasing by approximately 64% year on year. The company has reported bookings for stays less than 3 days are up by 68%, while bookings for stays between 3 to 7 days increased by 66% in 2013, compared to the previous year. This reveals that short holidays are popular, whether it’s for an extended weekend or taking a week off with the family during school holidays.

“Travel is an important part of most Australians lives and leisure seekers are taking full advantage of the lower airfares and great hotel deals, both overseas and Australia-wide,” said George Papaioannou, CEO of Excite Holidays.

Destinations like New Zealand, Fiji, Bali, Singapore and Malaysia are popular for short holidays as they are closeby, offer a range of activities to suit all traveler needs and allows them to relax and rejuvenate themselves before coming back to work.

But not all Australians are heading overseas. The natural beauty of Australia is incomparable and many Australians are exploring their own backyard in a bid to experience something new and to break the routine.

Mr Papaioannou continued, “Figures from Tourism Australia indicate that Australians are taking 10 times more trips in their own country than overseas. Furthermore, thanks to the weaker currency, lower airfares and nationwide marketing of various destinations and events, it’s not uncommon for domestic travelers to fly to Perth for an extended weekend at Margaret River and indulge in gourmet food and wine, or to Sydney to see a show at the Opera House.”

Popular Australian destinations include the Gold Coast, North Queensland, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.
