(TRAVPR.COM) UNITED KINGDOM - September 13th, 2013 - Local business and leisure travel will be given a boost next week when Ulendo Airlink launch their daily commuter flights between Lilongwe and Blantyre.
The new route also provides opportunity for tourists travelling to Malawi to cover what would otherwise be a 6 hour drive, in just 45 minutes. Lilongwe provides access to the central and northern areas of Malawi, as well as the Lakeshore. Blantyre provides the perfect base for exploring the southern areas including Majete Wildlife Reserve, Zomba Plateau, Mount Mulanje , Lower Shire., Liwonde National Park and the southern Lakeshore.
The new route, which will be launched on September 16, will initially operate an early morning shuttle service, enabling business travellers to schedule a full day of meetings and optimise their time away from the office. Capacity on the route will be increased to meet any increase in market demand through additional afternoon and evening flights and introduction of larger aircraft suitable for corporate shuttles from Kamuzu International to Chileka Airport.
Lilongwe-based Ulendo Airlink forms part of the Ulendo Travel Group, a local company, which has been successfully operating in the regional tourism and travel industry for over 16 years.
Following the liquidation of the national carrier earlier this year, Malawians have been left with little option but to travel between the countries major cities by road. While Government, in cooperation with Ethiopian Airlines, continue to work towards the long awaited launch of Malawian Airlines Limited, commercial aviation in the country has all but ceased to operate save limited charter services catering for tourism traffic to destinations on Lake Malawi and game parks in the region.
Flights from Kamuzu International Airport to Blantyre will use the airlines 7Q IATA designator code from Monday to Friday departing at 07:15 and arriving in Blantyre before 8am. Return flights depart Blantyre at 08:30 with a scheduled arrival time in Lilongwe of 09:15 and will initially be operated with Airlink's King Air 200 aircraft with ground handling services provided by LIHACO.
