(TRAVPR.COM) AUSTRALIA - September 17th, 2013 - Visitors to Caloundra on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast can sit back and enjoy a Pumicestone Passage Marine Park ecotourism adventure with a difference.
LARC About Tours offers its guests a memorable journey that canvases the local history and wide variety of flora and fauna of this tranquil environment on board an original amphibious vehicle used during the Vietnam War.
The five-tonne all-aluminium Lighter Amphibious Resupply Cargo (LARC) vehicle was used by the American military and is the only one in Australia that is in its original condition.
Tour operator Craig Seeley, who has a diploma in nautical science and more than 20 years' field experience, has been planning the tour of these clear waterways for some time.
“We offer our guests a unique mode of transportation to enjoy the surrounding natural environment,” Mr Seeley said.
“Travelling by amphibious vehicle is a memorable way to experience the waterway’s marine and bird life with views of Bribie Island and the Glasshouse Mountains as a magnificent backdrop.”
The LARC can comfortably seat up to 36 passengers with a crew of three.
Mr Seeley said the inaugural tour would last up to two hours and take in the northern section of the Pumicestone Passage along Bribie Island to historical sites at Lighthouse Reach.
The tour leaves from the Short Street boat ramp adjacent to Leach Park at Golden Beach.
