As noted, canyon tours originate from Las Vegas, Tusayan, AZ, and Phoenix, AZ. Vegas trips go to the West Rim and the South Rim of the National Park. Tusayan and Phoenix excursions only do the South Rim.

"If you are determined to visit the South Rim from Las Vegas, I urge you to consider the direct airplane tour," Kravitz noted. "The flight takes only one hour and includes a 2.5-hour ground tour inside the Park. This same tour can be upgraded to include a helicopter ride, which, frankly, is spectacular."

Helicopter tours from Las Vegas go to the West Rim, which is the only place in the Park in which these aircraft are allowed to fly to the bottom and land. Tusayan helicopters are available as 30-minute and 50-minute flights.

"The Vegas landing tour that I'm a big proponent of is one that lands at the bottom and comes with a boat ride and Skywalk tickets," Kravitz said. "As for Tusayan, I highly recommend the 50-minute tour because when you complete it you'll have seen up to 75% of the National Park."
