OktoberFest is in full swing & Lufthansa passengers are making the most of it.
(TRAVPR.COM) UNITED KINGDOM - October 22nd, 2013 - It was that time of year again when people enjoy the famous Oktoberfest celebrations! The Oktoberfest is an important part of Bavarian culture, having been held every year since 1810. Each year up to six million visitors attend this two week event in Lufthansa’s second hub city, Munich.
During the October beer festival Lufthansa’s Munich based cabin crew dressed in traditional attire to give the Bavarian touch to Lufthansa Flights. This year ground staff all over the world also took up the theme and drew inspiration from the customs of the world’s most famous folk festival.
It is now more than 50 years since Lufthansa flight attendants first exchanged their uniforms for traditional Bavarian costumes. In 1957, the airline reported: “During the Oktoberfest, Lufthansa stewardesses dressed in dirndls will be tending to the needs of passengers aboard the Super Constellation from New York to Hamburg between 17 September and 2 October, and on flights from London to Munich with Lufthansa Convair aircraft from 21 September to 5 October.” In 2005, after an interval of several years, Lufthansa revived the Oktoberfest crew tradition.
Cities that Lufthansa serves in the United Kingdom such as London, Birmingham, and Manchester also celebrate this famous German festival where people enjoy a giant beer and "Schlager" music and experience Bavarian culture for a day. Lufthansa flies to Munich 55 times a week from Heathrow London, 20 times a week from Manchester and 19 times a week from Birmingham.
