In response to increasing airline baggage fees, Tortuga Backpacks has created a carry-on-sized backpack for international travelers and frequent flyers.
(TRAVPR.COM) USA - November 19th, 2013 - Tortuga Backpacks announced the launch of its latest product: the Tortuga Travel Backpack, a carry on bag designed for international travel. The backpack allows travelers to pack everything they need without having to check their luggage. Using a carry on bag helps travelers dodge airlines’ checked baggage fees, which start at $25/flight.
"As checked baggage fees become the norm, more people are traveling with only a carry on bag,” said Tortuga Backpacks co-founder Fred Perrotta. "Travelers don't want to pay $50 more just to bring their bag on a round-trip flight. Plus, a checked bag can be damaged, stolen, or lost by the airlines."
Tortuga Backpacks' co-founders, Fred Perrotta and Jeremy Michael Cohen, were unable to find the right luggage for a backpacking trip to Eastern Europe in 2009. Disappointed by their bags, they designed one specifically for urban travelers like themselves.
Historically, travelers were forced to choose between hiking backpacks and wheeled suitcases. Hiking backpacks are too large to be carried onto planes and too disorganized because they open from the top. Wheeled suitcases are vulnerable to damage on the cobblestone streets of Europe and dirt roads of underdeveloped countries. The Tortuga combines the rugged portability of a backpack with the size and organization of a suitcase.
The new backpack is the latest version of Tortuga Backpacks’ flagship product. This iteration was more than a year in the making and incorporates feedback from the company’s previous customers.
