In the wake of Typhon Haiyan, Tacloban City remains devastated. Kaya Responsible Travel have begun an urgent appeal for both volunteers and donations
(TRAVPR.COM) UNITED KINGDOM - November 29th, 2013
The typhoon that hit the city of Tacloban on November 8th 2013 has left thousands of homes, hospitals and schools destroyed as well as caused widespread homelessness, disease and food shortage and the city faces turmoil.
For five years Tacloban has been the home of Kaya Responsible Travel offices and the target of years of volunteer efforts. This means with our accumulated knowledge and reputation in the area, the staff that remain in Tacloban are well placed to identify the immediate needs of those affected and ensure that donations go directly to where they are most needed.
The Philippines needs your help now more than ever and, as always, the extra hands of volunteers is essential to tackle the challenge ahead. Kaya are appealing for your help, whether you can donate your time or money, Kaya can ensure that your money goes directly to relief efforts.
Kaya is currently accepting applications from anyone wishing to volunteer in Tacloban that are willing to work hard and prepare to face tough conditions. With no electricity, internet or phone connection, this is not a traditional volunteer placement, but rather a disaster relief operation. Volunteers are not just needed in the short term but the need will continue for many months to come and even a few weeks of your time can make a big difference.
We need help with our four strand approach; rebuilding, providing healthcare and focusing on education and nutrition. If you have relevant skills, or want to work with the team in these areas, you can apply by following the link on our website - www.kayavolunteer.com
If you don’t have the time to spare but would like to help, you can donate via a link on our website.
The lives of people in Tacloban will remain a struggle and this Christmas as you spend time with family and friends exchanging gifts, remember that you can help people struggling to rebuild their lives in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan.
