At the start of November Swaziland's newest brochure was launched. UK based writer and journalist Mike Unwin was plucked from his busy schedule to write the publication based on his bank of Swazi experience spanning over a decade. Mike spent five years living out in the country, learnt the language, travelled the land, and knows this little emblem shaped dot on Africa's map like the back of his hand. The brochure marks the first of its kind - a highly illustrated coffee-table magazine guide to the country composed by a high quality and knowledgeable writer.

UK based writer and journalist Mike Unwin was plucked from his busy schedule to write the publication based on his bank of Swazi experience spanning over a decade. Mike spent five years living out in the country, learnt the language, travelled the land, and knows this little emblem shaped dot on Africa’s map like the back of his hand.

The brochure marks the first of its kind - a highly illustrated coffee-table magazine guide to the country composed by a high quality and knowledgeable writer.

We’re thrilled to reveal that Mike has now been recognised as the UK’s top travel writer, having been awarded the coveted BGTW Travel Writer of the Year Award.  The judges praised Mike's "range of the portfolio, evocative sense of place, family and individual experiences" and said his style was "inspirational with a nice friendly tone."

Mike writes numerous travel articles, with recent columns in The Independent and BBC Wildlife, plus travel and wildlife books for children and adults. He writes regularly on Swaziland and his winning portfolio included the following articles: You want wildlife on demand? Prepare to be disappointed  (Independent on Sunday); Zen and the Art of Amateur Wildlife Photography(Independent on Sunday); Africa's Nutshell Nation, (The Independent); In the Devil's Domain (Wild Travel Magazine); Monkey Business (Journeys Magazine); Bring Out  the Bodies (BBC Wildlife Magazine); andAmong the Volcanoes (Wild Travel Magazine).

Mike’s work isn’t limited to articles. An author of The Atlas of Birds; 100 Bizarre Animals, the children’s educational book Climate Change and most recently the UK’s very first Guide Book on Swaziland (published by Bradt Guides).

The new Swaziland brochure was launched at the 2013 World Travel Market and received great praise. In a departure from the norm of superficial destination brochures full of marketing hyperbole; by using the UK’s top travel writer and author of a guide book on the country, emphasis was put on creating a truly comprehensive guide. What has now been produced is a beautiful coffee table magazine covering all elements about the country that a traveller needs to know – including the highlights, the best places to see wildlife, and of course information on how as a visitor you can truly immerse yourself in the culture.
