Salaries down as winter approaches
Average salaries for new travel jobs fell in November, signifying the beginning of the annual winter slowdown in the recruitment market. The latest Travel Salary Index from C&M Recruitment Consultancy and Chisholm & Moore Executive Recruitment, which studied all new vacancies registered at the companies in the month, found that salaries dipped by 1.82 per cent to stand at £24,410. However this marked a strong 3.66 per cent increase from November 2012, while the three-month average figure also rose by 2.60 per cent annually.
Commenting on the month’s findings, Barbara Kolosinska, sales director at C&M Recruitment Consultancy, said: “While any fall in salary is disappointing, the 3.66 per cent rise in pay from this time last year is a more accurate indication of the state of the travel jobs market. Salaries may have fallen in November, but 2013 continues to be a positive year for travel recruitment, with many companies not only stepping up their efforts to find new employees, but also offering higher packages to secure the right recruits.”
Candidate registrations remain steady
Although the number of new travel jobs being made available fell slightly last month, November’s figure was still the third best so far this year and remained high above the 2013 average as well as the equivalent frame last year.
The picture was not so positive in terms of the number of new candidates registering for travel jobs however, with November witnessing a sharp dip compared to the previous month.
“Winter is here, and with it comes the expected slowdown in the recruitment market. While December is traditionally a very quiet month, it appears that, even in November, people’s attentions have turned towards the holiday season,” said Ms Kolosinska.
“However, many companies are looking to find new recruits to fill their job vacancies before the Christmas break, while we expect to see a buoyant market when January appears.”
