(TRAVPR.COM) USA - December 23rd, 2013 - Grand Canyon Tours will be welcoming the New Year with a number of flights and bus trips that will make the make the start of 2014 one of the most memorable ever.

Specifically, airplanes, helicopters and bus tours from Las Vegas will be flying on a winter schedule through the New Year's holiday. The same is true for all air tours that originate from Tusayan, AZ (a/k/a the South Rim).

Las Vegas flights will be departing from various airstrips in the metro area, including Boulder City, NV, and Henderson, NV. South Rim flights will all be departing from Grand Canyon National Park Airport (GCN). Bus tours will originate from the Las Vegas Strip.

Travelers need to be aware that The Strip will be closed to vehicular traffic on New Year's Eve (NYE) at 6 p.m. The situation will impact tours, especially bus trips. "Bus tours will be getting back from the Canyon between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m., said Keith Kravitz, owner of Grand Canyon Tours. "That's not optimal because that's when NYE festivities go into high gear."

Kravitz recommends skipping bus tours on NYE and waiting until Jan. 1. Similarly, he recommends avoiding air tours that depart after 12 p.m. on NYE. "The Strip is going to be very congested and so getting back to any of the major resorts will be problematic. On the other hand, the coast is clear the first of January going forward."

By contrast, there are no NYE crowd issues at the South Rim. "It's slow season there, which means travelers could very well have the National Park all to themselves," noted Kravitz. "Do expect it to be cold and there's always a possibility of snow."

If weather forces the cancellation of a tour, travelers in most cases can either reschedule or get a full refund. "The best tour companies will give you back your money no questions asked," Kravitz noted. "Or, if possible, they'll get you on the next earliest tour that day. These same companies also let travelers cancel within 24 hours of the departure date/time. Just make sure to read the fine print."

There are two kinds of air tours from Las Vegas: Aerial and landing. Helicopters only fly to the West Rim and airplanes go to the West Rim and the South Rim. Bus tours go to both rims, too. "When it comes to air tours, the landing tours are the best value," Kravitz noted. "As for bus trips, go to the South Rim for natural scenic beauty and the West Rim for the Skywalk and other activities."

It should be noted that the West Rim is the only place where helicopters are permitted to land at the bottom. Moreover, South Rim helicopters are strictly aerial affairs that take travelers over the Canyon for 30 minutes or 50 minutes.

Las Vegas tours to the Canyon are all-inclusive and come with free hotel pick up and drop off, lunch (air-only tours excluded) and all National Park fees and surcharges. "Frankly, all-inclusive trips are the only way to visit the National Park," said Kravitz. "What is paid at the time of booking is final so there are no surprises, which is really helpful when on a budget or booking a trip for multiple people."
