EXPERIENCE AFRICA DIFFERENTLY WITH REAL AFRICA’S ADVENTUROUS NEW ‘CHALLENGE’ SAFARIS
Industry: Tour Ops

Real Africa, UK based Africa safari specialist, has launched a new range of challenging safari activities aimed at those who want to get off the beaten track and to safari in a more stimulating way. Challenges include horseriding in Botswana, cage diving with a great white shark in South Africa, climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, walking safaris in Zambia and gorilla trekking in Uganda and Rwanda.

(TRAVPR.COM) UK - January 24th, 2014 - Real Africa’s new challenge programme aims to take clients out of their traditional safari comfort zone, the trusted 4x4, and to engage them directly with the environment around them enabling them to see and experience Africa differently.

Real Africa has a core of loyal, repeat clients and the company were keen to expand their offering to those that had already experienced the traditional tailor-made 4x4 safari visiting iconic parks and wildlife reserves. The result was a collection of ‘Challenge safaris’, all of which visit more remote areas and require a degree of physical or mental stamina.

Clients can enjoy the thrill of a walking safari, moving between chic mobile camps in pristine areas of Zambia’s South Luangwa Valley accompanied by an expert guide, where leopards roam the dry riverbeds. They can canter across the savannah on horseback in Botswana, coming eye to eye with elephants, or climb the snowy peak of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, the world’s highest climbable mountain at 5, 895 metres.

Each challenge has the Real Africa hallmark of quality and comfort – for example, rather than share a crowded mountain dormitory the Kilimanjaro climb is offered as a private tour, with dedicated mountain guides and porters to carry mineral water, bedding and even a loo. Price from £2,645 per person for a ten night itinerary including international flights and transfers, pre climb accommodation and a fully supported climb based on the extended Machame route.

“Tackle your mid-life crisis with a safari to Africa”, says Sara White, Marketing Manager at Real Africa. “Forget cycle rides and marathon running and set yourself apart with a different and really stimulating challenge that you will never forget.”

Other challenges require more mental stamina than physical, journeying to remote corners of the continent. A private tour of Ethiopia’s Omo Valley visits the semi-nomadic tribes of the region and explores ancient cultural traditions such as lip plating and cattle jumping. From £2, 136 per person for an eight night private tour of the Omo Valley departing and returning to Addis Ababa.

Some challenges are ideal for families with teenage children looking for a unique summer holiday experience.  The five day Selinda Spillway Canoe safari in Botswana involves impromptu camping on deserted islands and the exploration of remote areas along the Spillway, a body of water linking the Okavango Delta to the Kwando and Linyanti water systems and home to a variety of flora and fauna. The area is well-known for elephant, buffalo and wild dogs although hippos and crocodiles are few. The trail starts around 45 km downstream from Selinda Camp. A few days at Victoria Falls is the perfect climax to the canoe safari and can easily be added on.  Price from £1, 620 per person for a four night/five day mobile camping canoe safari departing and returning to the Selinda Airstrip.
