                There are many species of wildlife to observe in the Lakes Region, including the most popular species such as Moose, Loon, Beavers, Bears and Eagles. The Squam Lakes Natural Science Center in Holderness is a great place for children and adults and makes for the perfect day trip as visitors explore everything the center has to offer. Part zoo, part education facility, the center focuses on educating visitors through the many exhibits, hiking trails, lake cruises and gardens including visits to see the center’s resident mountain lion, black bear, bobcat, owls and many other species. Prescott Farm in Laconia is designated as an official New Hampshire Wildlife Viewing Area and offers more than three miles of hiking trails through woodlands, ponds and fields as well as a variety of farm animals for visitors to enjoy. Beans and Greens Farm in Gilford and Polar Caves in Rumney are both great seasonal destinations for trips that provide family friendly animal encounters including exotic birds and deer.

                Nearby in Moultonborough, families can visit the Markus Wildlife Sanctuary and The Loon Center, which offers nature trails, exhibits and videos. The Loon Center & Wildlife Sanctuary was developed due to the decrease in number of Loons on the many lakes and ponds in the area. Loons are a rare sight on the Lakes of New Hampshire and visitors on the water consider themselves lucky when coming across this rare animal. Visitors looking for the thrill of adventure should take a ride on the Pemi Valley Moose Tour. Located in Lincoln, the Pemi Valley Moose Tour provides visitors with a 3.5 hour bus ride through the breathtaking White Mountains, as they watch for Moose along the way.
