One of Europe’s most unique hiking trails, the beautiful Alpe-Adria walking trail and pass through stunning sections of Slovenia, Austria and Italy.
(TRAVPR.COM) SLOVENIA - February 20th, 2014 - Experience three beautiful countries and three unique cultures by exploring the 363 mile, cross-border Alpe-Adria trail from the foot of the majestic Großglockner to the azure Mediterranean sea.
From the foot of Großglockner in Austria via the Slovenian Alps all the way to the Italian Adriatic coast, hikers will encounter stunning natural scenery, majestic glaciers and the mighty Julian Alps on the road to the Venetian port city of Muggia.
Highlights include:
1. Pasterze and Hohe Tauern National Park, Austria
In Austria, the trailhead is located right at the foot of Pasterze, Austria’s largest glacier right in the centre of Hohe Tauern National Park. The park is home to Austria’s highest peaks, meadows strewn with colorful alpine flowers, imposing crags and glistening waterfalls.
2. Triglav National Park in the Julian Alps, Slovenia
Home to the country’s highest mountain, Triglav National Park is one of Europe’s oldest and is hidden away in the Julian Alps in the north west of the country. It is also home to Slovenia’s biggest glacial lake, Lake Bohinj, as well as the mighty peaks of Mangart, Jalovec, Prisojnik and Špik.
3. Soča valley, Slovenia
The valley’s beauty is above all due to the turquoise blue water of the wild river, which rises from a karst source in the northwest of Slovenia. It won an EDEN award back in 2008 and presents itself as a gem rich in natural scenery including waterfalls, caves, and remote river valleys.
4. Goriška Brda region, Slovenia
The unique position of this hilly region has produced many international prize-winning wines and the centuries old tradition of wine growing is continued in numerous wine cellars.
5. Muggia, Italy
An idyllic port city with Venetian charm, delicious Mediterranean dishes and picturesque architecture. Celebrate the end of the tour by wandering the gothic-venetian style streets, exploring the Venetian ‘campiello’ or square and tucking into some well-earned traditional Italian cuisine.
