There is only one expansive cabin on the 31-meter Alexa by Talika Oazia and cruises are individually tailored to couple’s wishes. Go surfing in Sumbawa, trekking and diving in Komodo National Park, or swimming with dolphins in the Flores Sea. Fish for your supper and watch as the executive chef prepares your catch in the huge open galley. At hand is also an on-board spa therapist ready to provide massage and pampering whenever you like. Walk on a deserted beach in a far-flung exotic island or just kick back and do nothing at all, aboard what is essentially a luxury floating resort for two.
“The design of the Alexa mixes the traditional with the new,” said Veronika Blomgren, the cruise concept’s creator and founder of Oazia. “We’ve refinished the original teak and added glass and stainless steel, primitive sculpture and well-chosen antiques. There are silk Persian rugs and cherished kilims and panoramic windows for viewing the changing landscape at sea.”
Of traditional Phinisi ( pi-ni-si) boat design and with a colourful and exotic history, the Alexa once carried cargos of spices between Sumba, Flores, Sumbawa and Sulawesi. She is now docked in Flores, where cruises customarily begin. Itineraries are entirely flexible and if guests want a send-off party with friends in Bali, for example, the journey may start there. The boat can motor or sail or a combination of both depending on conditions or guest preferences. The ship's 7 international and multilingual crew includes a Cruise Director who is a certified dive instructor, a Resident Spa Therapist, Private Chef and Captain with 15 years navigating experience.
Blomgren said, “The main deck offers several open lounge areas and on the lower deck is a library stocked with travel books and maps, along with a big screen TV for viewing a selection of movies. The original ship’s galley has been replaced with a modern open kitchen, designed for gourmands who like to cook or just sit and watch food prepared while drinking a glass of wine.”
Traditional dishes such as the classic Indonesian nasi goreng are served but you can also expect some fantastic international dining selections like ceviche, carpaccio, fresh grilled seafood, a variety of healthy salads and wonderfully delicious deserts. Named amongst the top 10 most outstanding women in Russia’s art scene by Vogue magazine, Ms. Blomgren is also the founder and a lecturer at Details, lauded as the best design school in Moscow.
