OUTSIDE MAGAZINE LISTS SQUAM LAKE AND ROCKYWOLD-DEEPHAVEN CAMPS AS TOP DESTINATION
Industry: Accommodation

Since 1897 vacationers have cherished RDC (Rockywold-Deephaven Camps), a rustic all-inclusive vacation hideaway on the pristine shores of Squam Lake in New Hampshire.

(TRAVPR.COM) NEW HAMPSHIRE - March 14th, 2014 - Since 1897 vacationers have cherished RDC (Rockywold-Deephaven Camps), a rustic all-inclusive vacation hideaway on the pristine shores of Squam Lake in New Hampshire.  For the McDermitt family the award came as no surprise. The family hiked from their RDC cottage on the water to enjoy the vistas of Squam Lake seen from the top of West Rattlesnake Mountain.  RDC Resort provides a remarkable and truly inspirational setting and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places by the US Department of the Interior.

The OUTSIDE Travel Awards were announced March 4, 2014, and will be featured in the April issue available on newsstands March 18th.  RDC was selected for this honor which features top destinations, companies, products and travel providers in the United States and around the world. OUTSIDE tapped its global network of correspondents, who traveled across America and beyond, identifying the best adventures, stunning lakes, gorgeous lodges and hotels, family vacations, secret getaways and foodie hotspots.

“We are very pleased to have been discovered by the OUTSIDE travel experts. We’ve always known that Squam Lake is one of the most picturesque lakes in the country and we offer the perfect blend of solitude, activity and camaraderie,” states John Jurczynski, Co-General Manager of RDC.  The 60 rustic cottages with private docks are artfully perched along the beautiful Squam Lake shoreline and provide a glimpse of a simpler time.  Family-style meals are served in a post-and-beam dining hall and s’mores by the campfire make for indelible vacation memories.  RDC Resort also recently gained national attention with their annual Ice Harvesting, a tradition started in the 1800’s.

All summer long, the RDC staff delivers the harvested blocks of ice to an old-fashioned icebox which sits on the screened porch.  RDC guests are treated to the experience of yesteryear along with the convenience of daily housekeeping, all meals and a host of organized activities.  Sports lovers enjoy the clay tennis courts, basketball court and ball field, and low impact boat and mountain bike rentals are available.

True to the RDC resort’s “unplugged” approach to vacationing, the reservation process is a hands-on process that starts with a reservation request form found on the website. There are also special theme weeks that focus on Yoga, Nature, Wellness or Tennis.  Their season runs from late May to mid-September.

RDC is located at 18 Bacon Road, Holderness, NH. For more information, visit www.RDCsquam.com or call 603-968-3313. The award-winning magazine OUTSIDE has covered travel, sports, adventure, health, and fitness since 1977.
