Industry: Hotels

Park Regis Kris Kin Hotel Dubai has been making great strides towards incorporating best environmental practices as part of its keen desire to curtail its carbon footprint in line with sustainable tourism policy in the Emirates.

(TRAVPR.COM) UAE - March 20th, 2014 - Park Regis Kris Kin Hotel Dubai has been making great strides towards incorporating best environmental practices as part of its keen desire to curtail its carbon footprint in line with sustainable tourism policy in the Emirates.

For the second consecutive year the hotel has been awarded an international Green Globe Certification (GGC) for demonstrating its firm commitment to implementation of green policies in order to reduce the impact of its business on the environment.

However, its quest does not slow down despite the achievement of this milestone. In fact, the Park Regis Kris Kin Hotel Dubai has further stepped up its green quest since it won the prestigious certification, which was bestowed upon it following an in-depth sustainability audit conducted by Farnek Consulting, GGC’s exclusive partner in the Middle East. The hotel's vigorous efforts have been showing encouraging results.

Mr. Scott Butcher, General Manager, Park Regis Kris Kin Hotel Dubai, said that the certification has reinforced their commitment to the emirates’ transition towards a greener economy and inspired them to follow the Green Globe Programme in both its letter and spirit to ensure the best quality practices.

Following the Green Globe Programme, the hotel has made noteworthy improvement over its achievements a year ago.

“We have significantly reduced the consumption of electricity and water besides other precious resources. In terms of Energy Consumption we have achieved a 3% reduction compared to 2013. Similarly we have achieved 5% reduction in Water Consumption, 15% in Waste Diversion Ratio. We  intend to maintain this trend going forward.

In 2012, the hotel replaced more than 1100 Halogen bulbs, each 50W, with 3W LED lamps. This year the management has focused on reducing the consumption on Air Conditioning.

“Electricity consumption in 2012 was 9,321,070 K w Hrs (108 per rooms), while the consumption during the same period in 2013 was recorded only 8,793,876 K w Hrs (82 per rooms). The saving is 5.6% (527,194 K w Hrs). This saving is achieved despite of the increase in the occupancy levels in 2013,” he added.

The hotel has been regularly conducting training programmes on sustainability to create awareness among its staff, who have been responding enthusiastically. The hotel is also planning to conduct training programmes on waste segregation. Waste consumption in 2012 at the Park Regis Kris Kin Hotel Dubai was 15,412,000 im Gallons (178 per rooms) while in 2013, it was 16,455,000 im Gallons (154 per rooms).

Talking about the Green Goals set for the first year, Mr. Butcher said, “We are targeting on 5% reduction in Electricity consumption and streamlining the waste segregation. Also we are planning to calculate our carbon foot prints involved in the hotel operation in line with Green Globe requirements.”
