(TRAVPR.COM) CHINA - April 15th, 2014 - Today, Photo Tours Abroad were advised by their China agents of a very pleasing change to the Tibet Permit regulations. For 2014 groups will no longer have to be of a single nationality. This has an immediate impact on their Shotun Festival Discovery photography workshop with Nick Rains in August (http://phototoursabroad.com/calendar/shotun-festival-discovery). This is now open to all nationalities, not just Australian passport holders.
Tibet Permits
Tibet Permits are required by all foreigners wishing to visit this Semi Autonomous Region (SAR) within the People's Republic of China (PRC). These permits are normally obtained by the local travel service booking a set of arrangements on behalf of the group. Foreigners without such a permit will not be allowed to board a flight or train into Tibet.
The Shotun Festival (aka the Yoghurt Festival)
During the summer months the monks segregate themselves in the lamaseries to meditate and study. At the end of summer the monks emerge from their retreats and re-join their community of lay people. Giant thankas are presented to the gods, and the lay people offer the monks food, especially yoghurt. This is a time of general celebration throughout Tibet.
