(TRAVPR.COM) INDONESIA - April 26th, 2014 - From 9 – 11 May 2014, the secluded seaside resort of Alila Manggis in East Bali will excite and delight palates with a Culinary Festival that celebrates Bali’s distinctive culinary traditions. From land to sea, experience authentic Balinese flavours, fresh-picked organic produce, as well as food that works wonders for your skin in a complete gastronomic getaway.
Crafted around the concept of Warung Desa, “warung” being a type of small family-owned eating place that is common in Bali, and “desa” meaning village community, the festival features three full days of unique cooking and dining experiences inspired by the best local ingredients and a taste of the real Bali.
Among the highlights, guests can take part in a Balinese Cuisine Master Class in the resort’s own organic garden located just ten minutes away, hidden below the foothills of Mount Agung overlooking the sea. Here they will rediscover the wholesome, nurturing flavours of unprocessed ingredients and gain a renewed appetite for a healthier, balanced lifestyle. Guests will observe first-hand the traditional agricultural practices of local farmers, help collect seasonal ingredients and, led by Executive Chef Santika at Allila Manggis, a leading boutique hotel in Bali. Take an organic cooking lesson in the garden, savouring their fresh-cooked dishes afterwards in a traditional Balinese pavilion.
Seafood lovers can embark on a “Catch & Cook” seafood adventure early in the morning with a crew of fishermen aboard the resort’s traditional jukung fishing boat. Tagging along with the local fishing boat fleet, guests will put their fishing skills to the test catching fish for lunch. After an exhilarating morning out at sea, breakfast will be served on the white sandy beach of Pasir Putih, followed by a cooking class, learning how to prepare a local fish and prawn curry for lunch using the fresh catch of the day.
A session focused on “Food For Your Skin” will provide fascinating insights into Bali’s rich history of traditional medicinal recipes, and the healing qualities of natural ingredients found all around us and used in Alila’s healthy, natural cuisine and spa treatments. A glass of Jamu, a traditional Indonesian tonic, provides a great start to the day over breakfast at Taman Ujung Water Palace. Besides exploring the secrets to staying healthy and youthful found in local herbs, roots and fruits, guests will learn how to create their own natural facial treatment and herbal body scrub before enjoying a healthy lunch served in the bale. While engaging in these wonderful culinary escapades, guests can also immerse themselves in the beauty of the East Bali setting and local culture with cocktails at sunset, live Balinese music and dance performances, an art exhibition, and even a movie under the stars.
The start of the festival will coincide with the opening of a month-long painting exhibition at Alila
Manggis, “Living Harmony” by Ubud-born artist Pandi. Distinguished by a spontaneous childlike
expression, Pandi’s works feature whimsical female forms in soft, soothing colours accompanied by a bird, a tree or some flowers, conveying a pure and loving union with the natural environment. The exhibition will be the setting for a chic opening night cocktail party.
The final evening of the festival will see the transformation of Alila Manggis’ coconut grove into a candlelit outdoor cinema complete with comfy sofas, where guests can sit back, relax and catch a movie while feasting on Babi Guling, Bali’s famed roasted suckling pig – a fittingly delicious finale to this fun and flavour-packed festival.
