Feel like a local on a host of new seasonal Urban Adventures tours
(TRAVPR.COM) UK - June 10th, 2014 - Urban Adventures is offering travellers the chance to 'feel like a local', with a host of new seasonal tours that tie-in with lesser-known festivals, Ramadan celebrations, sports events and more.
The global day tour company offers offbeat itineraries for small groups (up to 12 passengers), which are led by passionate and knowledgeable local guides in 95 destinations. Its new seasonal tours include:
Gnawa VIP Music Experience Festival Tour, Essaouira (€125) - now in its 17th year, the Gnawa and World Music Festival takes place in Morocco from 12 - 15 June and attracts musicians from all over the world (past performers have included Arrested Development and Kymani Marley). Urban Adventures is offering festival-goers a behind-the-scenes look at the culture and customs of Gnawa, a trance-like style of music with acrobatic dance moves. Available for four days only, from 12 - 15 June.
Mumbai Iftar Party (US$47) - during Ramadan (or Ramzan, as it is known in India), Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset and then by evening, streets and homes come alive with a celebratory meal called 'Iftar'. Travellers can get a unique insight into this festival by joining a local Urban Adventures guide for a stroll through Mumbai's streets, stopping to enjoy special dishes and local delicacies, and observing locals as they offer their last prayers for the day. Available daily from 30 June to 29 July.
Aussie Rules Melbourne Tour (AU$50) - travellers will join a footy-obsessed Urban Adventures guide for the inside scoop on Australia's most beloved sport, from its indigenous roots to the biggest moments in AFL history, and the stadiums they were played in. After a tour of some key AFL locations across the city, they will head to the stadium to watch a game, with an opportunity to go onto the pitch to hear the coach's pep talk, and to kick the ball. Available on 12 July, 2 August and 9 August only.
Onam Festival, Kochi (US$148) - one of the most celebrated of several local festivals, the Onam Festival marks the return of the mythical King Mahabali, who is believed to have brought prosperity to Keralans. Urban Adventures is offering travellers the chance to enjoy the festivities with a local family, by visiting their home to participate in the tradition of making flower carpets and share a home-cooked lunch. Available for one day only, on 7 September.
Corktown is Popping, Detroit (US$26) - once an Irish immigrant neighbourhood, Detroit's Corktown is on the National Register of Historic Places but is far from stuck in the past - it is currently enjoying a renaissance thanks to a raft of cool bars, cafes, restaurants and venues. Travellers can join a local guide for a guided tour of the area, taking in its station ruins and its vibrant street art, as well as the burgeoning food scene. Available daily from 1 June to 31 August.
Urban Adventures can be booked online at urbanadventures.com or at travel agents.
